At CADAS, we are committed to reducing harmful addiction across Cumbria. We recognise that much of Cumbria is rural and that it can be difficult for people from these communities to access help and advice when faced with an unhealthy habit or addictive behaviour.
Mid Copeland is a small area of West Cumbria covering Seascale, Gosforth, Beckermet, Calderbridge and surrounding rural neighbourhoods and we believe in the importance of ensuring our services can be reached throughout this area as we strive to support people across the county.
If you would like to receive support from an experienced coach and you live in the Mid Copeland area, know that CADAS are here for you. You are not alone.

1-1 recovery sessions with CADAS
CADAS offers weekly sessions with a recovery coach, helping you explore strategies to change your behaviours, thoughts and feelings relating to alcohol dependency, substance use, gambling or other addictions. Sessions can be attended in person in various places across Cumbria but for those who live more rurally, we offer an online service where expert advice can be accessed from the comfort of your own home.
Group support
Our groups provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where members can openly discuss their struggles, share their experiences, and offer encouragement to one another. They are a safe space where you can take solace in knowing you are not alone. CADAS support groups are usually led by people who have personal experience with addiction and we find that this fosters a unique sense of mutual understanding and togetherness.
We offer in-person group sessions across Cumbria but also provide an online countywide session for those struggling with addiction every Tuesday and an online countywide group for affected family and friends every other Thursday. Furthermore, we run an online Bereaved by Addiction group on the 4th Thursday of every month specifically for those who have lost a loved one as a result of addiction.
Gambling harms training
Gambling is perhaps a lesser recognised addiction than a dependency on alcohol or substances but a gambling habit can seriously impact the lives of those affected from being the cause of money problems to relationship breakdowns and issues at work.
Our fantastic Gambling Coordinator, Martin will be running an online training session on Wednesday 11th June, perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about gambling habits and the support available.
The 'Bet You Can Help' training programme aims to educate learners using an accredited, uniform and consistent set of messaging regarding gambling related harms and associated issues. It supports learners to competently implement an early brief intervention with anyone at risk of, or experiencing, gambling harms, and how to signpost to specialist service providers. The programme seeks to prevent a worsening or escalation of the individual’s gambling harms situation. This is done through a developed understanding of the issue, developing confidence in supporting individuals and ultimately by guiding and signposting people in accessing appropriate specialist services.
We want to make this as welcoming a session as possible so don't worry, you don't have to interact if you don't want to - you can simply sit back and take in the information.
The session is open to anyone but will have a particular focus on the Mid Copeland area.
CADAS are here for anyone who wants help with their unhealthy habit or addiction, and we provide a listening ear without judgement. For more information, read about the services we offer.
