Stop the Start
- vaping workshops for young people

Stop the Start is a brand new project aimed at tackling vaping and smoking among young people in Cumberland. It’s all about helping young people not to start in the first place - and offering the right support to those who already vape or smoke and want to quit.

We’ll be delivering the project in secondary schools and youth settings right across Cumberland from September 2025 to July 2026.

There are two key parts to it:

education and intervention.

Please note, there is no charge to you for either of these services thanks to funding from Cumberland Council.

Education – We’ll be running workshops in schools and youth groups to raise awareness about the risks of smoking and vaping. We’ll talk about how nicotine dependence works and help young people make more informed choices. These sessions last about an hour and are designed for groups of up to 30 young people, aged 11 to 17.

Intervention – For any young person aged 11–17 who wants help to quit smoking, vaping, or both, we’ll offer friendly, tailored support through one-to-one or small group sessions. Young people aged 12 and over can also access licensed Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) where it’s appropriate.

We’re really excited to bring this to life – and we’d love to visit your school or youth setting soon!
