Thanks to recent funding through the Big Lottery Fund, Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service (CADAS) will now be able to offer its adult clients a new and innovative service in the Barrow-in-Furness area: free nutrition and lifestyle advice and support from a qualified nutritional therapist.
The Nutrition and Lifestyle Service will offer two main options for clients aged 18 and over:
Brief Intervention – Clients will be offered 1-4 sessions to obtain generic healthy eating and lifestyle recommendations.
Personalised Support – Clients will be offered 12 sessions during which time they can obtain personalised Nutrition and Lifestyle recommendations. Each session will focus on different topics, depending on the needs of the client.
Clients can choose to focus on:
Improving their relationship with food and eating Understanding of the impacts of certain foods and eating habits on their health. Understanding of how nutrition and lifestyle can help with substance misuse recovery and craving reduction. Cooking and food preparation skills Exercise Introduction Developing healthy sleep routines and improving the quality of sleep. Healthy Shopping: where to shop for the best deals, how to interpret food labels, what different foods look like. Budget planning: How to make nutrition and lifestyle changes affordable and realistic. Developing new hobbies, skills and interests Improving social skills and developing new, healthy relationships. Relaxation techniques and strategies.
